Newly appointed Mayor of Ulaanbaatar city, S.Amarsaikhan has just issued a decree to suspend the licenses of dozens of private schools and kindergartens. A total of 25 private schools and 23 kindergartens will now be unable to continue to function.
The mayor suspended the licenses of these private organisations in accordance with the Law on Education which states that organisations must begin operations within six months of receiving licenses.
There has long been a problem with the lack of schools and kindergartens in Mongolia. For example, many schools in the rural districts on the outskirts of Ulaanbaatar run three teaching shifts a day while children have to be selected by ‘the August lottery’ in order to get into kindergarten.
