Mongolians will soon be able to apply for their passports and ID cards online. The General Authority for State Registration will be launching the new service from 15 March, 2019. This project has been under preparation since 2018 with the aid of the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

Currently, 39 soums in 12 provinces and 11 khoroo of two districts in Ulaanbaatar have been connected to the online service. Mongolia aims to connect all 220 soums of the 21 provinces and 9 districts of Ulaanbaatar by 1 September, 2019.

In addition, Mongolian citizens will receive notification about their passport expiration dates on their mobile phones.
