Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) is about to lose its business in Mongolia after 116 people suffered from severe cases of food poisoning between 8-15 February. Several people became ill after consuming chicken products from the same KFC outlet in Zaisan – a well-off suburb in the south of Ulaanbaatar. Victims have been suffered from vomiting, diarrhea and high fever. Currently, 37 people have been undergoing treatment in National Centre for Communicable Disease (NCCD) and 79 people have been treated at home.
Water and some products in the KFC outlet have been shown to be contaminated; two employees have been diagnosed with dysentery. According to officials, health documents of two employees were false.
At the emergency meeting of the Ulaanbaatar City Management Session, officials noted that KFC chain will be closed pending a court ruling.
