Mongolian freight transit increases by 50 percent

The number of China-Europe freight trains traveling through Mongolia increased by well over 50 percent in 2018.  As the service expands, its contribution to the Mongolian economy has been increasing.

Economic relations and cooperation between China, Russia and European countries have improved over the last few years. There were 556 China-Europe freight trains travelling through Mongolia in 2017 and the number reached 856 in 2018, according to official data. Freight turnover of the Ulaanbaatar Railway JSC is increasing as a result of  transit. Mongolia has the benefit of its geographical location lying between the two big countries.

Under the Mongolia-Russia-China Economic Corridor Programme the ‘Mongol Post’ JSC has been transiting the online goods and parcels from China to Russia and Europe through the territory of Mongolia since 2016.
