Following yesterday’s mass public demonstration on Sukhbaatar Square, the Mongolian parliament held an all-night session which started at 02.12 a.m. and was attended by 77.3 percent of the members. During Thursday’s session, MPs discussed the draft amendment of the Parliament Session Order which had been initiated by President Kh.Battulgaa. The amendment will provide the opportunity for the majority of MP to vote to dismiss Speaker M.Enkhbold.
After that, MPs discussed a request for stripping four parliamentary members of immunity submitted by the State General Prosecutor’s Office of Mongolia. However, B.Purevdorj, deputy director of the parliamentary group of the Democratic Party asked that the session be continued after a break; the lawmakers are due to reconvene on today at 3.00 p.m.
Regular sessions of the Mongolian State Great Khural have been postponed over a month due to a boycott by nearly 40 MPs protesting against Speaker of Parliament M.Enkhbold.
