Mongolia’s parliamentary crisis is continuing. Activity in the State Great Khural (parliament) has been paralyzed for over a month due to a boycott by nearly 40 MPs protesting against Speaker M.Enkhbold, who is being accused of arrogance and blocking important debate. In addition, parliament has not appointed lawmakers to replace the ministers who resigned in the wake of the ongoing SME Fund scandal. Also, a new mayor for the Mongolian capital, Ulaanbaatar, has still not been named.
Mongolia’s opposing Democratic Party has begun collecting signatures for dissolving Parliament. MP J.Munkhbat from the ruling Mongolian People’s Party has also signed a petition for dissolving parliament – led by his own party. It should be noted that J Munkhbat did not sign the official letter – this was signed by 16 MPs.
