The population of Mongolia has reached 3,177,000 – a six-fold increase from a century ago. In the 20th century, the country conducted its first population census in 1918 under a decree of the Bogd Khan. This revealed that there were 647,500 Mongolians, 100 thousand Chinese and 5000 Russians living in Mongolia. The nation’s birth rate began to increase from 1960.
