An unnamed foreign national living in Ulaanbaatar was arrested in October for allegedly spying. The foreign spy was taken into custody from C block of the Golomt apartment complex, which is located near the Western Road Intersection in Ulaanbaatar. According to D.Gerel, director of the General Intelligence Agency of Mongolia, the spy is not Chinese. Some unofficial sources had reported that arrested man was from China.

Under the current law, if a foreign citizen undertakes espionage in Mongolia, they will be punished by 12-20 years imprisonment.
