Construction of Mongolia’s new international airport is now 98.9 percent completed and will soon be ready to receive the first flights. Located 52 km to the south of the capital Ulaanbaatar, in the Khushig Valley of Tuv Province, the new airport will provide better safety and reliability, good links to the city and will contribute to the economic development of Mongolia.
Yesterday (12 December), Prime Minister U.Khurelsukh, visited Khushig Valley to inspect the construction process of the new international airport. Once it begins operation, it will be able to receive 1500 passengers per day with a takeoff capacity of eight planes.
Originally, it had been planned to open in 2016, now the planned date for the first flights is before the next Naadam Festival which is held annually in July.
The new airport will be owned 51 percent by Japan and the remainder by the Mongolian government for the first 15 years. After that, it will be transferred to 100 percent Mongolian ownership.
