Under guidelines set out by the Mongolian Prime Minister, resorts and nursing facilities will receive pregnant women and children under the age of 5 free of charge. A total of 29 such organisations will serve oxygen cocktails. This will help decrease the concentration of toxic substances in their blood resulting from the chronic winter pollution in Ulaanbaatar.
According to research on the poverty level, families with up to 409 points will benefit from the care service. A total of 35 thousand pregnant women and 65 thousand children are expected to receive this care service.
Air pollution has become a child health crisis in Ulaanbaatar, putting every child and pregnancy at risk. The risks include stillbirths, preterm births, lower birth weight, pneumonia, bronchitis, asthma, inhibited brain development and death.
