Mongolian Marathon Man

Mongolian marathon runner B.Ser-Od has won the silver medal in the 49th Hofu Yomiuri Marathon. The competition took place in Hofu, Japan on 16 December. B.Ser-Od finished 42 km race in 2:12:12.

Japanese marathon runner Yuki Kawauchi won 1st place with a finishing time of 2:11:29. A total of over 3,000 athletes participated in the annual marathon organized by the Yomiuri Shimbun, one of Japan’s top five newspapers.

B.Ser-Od represented his country in the marathon at the Summer Olympics in 2004, 2008 and 2012 where he was also flag bearer. D.Ser-Od began his international career in 2002 and has competed in the marathon on five consecutive editions of the World Championships in Athletics since 2003. His best performance is 20th at the 2011 World Championships. He is Mongolia’s first ever elite level marathon runner and his personal best of 2:08:50 is the Mongolian national record.
