Mongolia to expand cooperation with North Korea

 

Mongolian Foreign Minister D.Tsogtbaatar and his counterpart from the  Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), Ri Yong Ho, have agreed to further strengthen bilateral ties between their countries, the Mongolian Foreign Ministry said on Sunday.

Minister Ri arrived in the Mongolian capital of Ulaanbaatar on Saturday for a two-day visit at the invitation of the Mongolian foreign minister.  Previously, Minister D.Tsogtbaatar visited North Korea in February, 2018.

Foreign Minister Ri Yong-ho said that his visit to Mongolia has the goals of discussing and planning works targeted at broadening relations between Mongolia and North Korea. Also on the agenda is joint implementation of the agreed plan marking the occasion of the 70th anniversary of diplomatic ties.

While commending the successful development of cooperation in fields such as culture, education, sports and humanitarian work, the sides emphasized the potential for collaborating in many social and economic fields in the future.

Minister D.Tsogtbaatar emphasized the importance of the denuclearization of the Korean peninsula and solving controversial issues in the region in peaceful ways through dialogue. In turn, Minister Ri Yong-ho stated that like Mongolia the DPRK aspires for denuclearization of the Korean peninsula.

Mongolia and the DPRK established diplomatic ties in 1948.
