The European Union (EU) officially opened its diplomatic mission with ф ribbon cutting ceremony on Tuesday in Mongolia. The ceremony was attended by EU Commissioner for International Cooperation and Development Neven Mimica, and State Secretary of the Mongolian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, D.Davaasuren.

Mr. Neven Mimica expressed his wish to vault EU-Mongolia relations to a new level through the EU deligation. The two sides first established diplomatic relations in August 1989.

The European Union announced that the 28-nation group would open a delegation in Mongolia earlier this year in a move that will expand its relationship with the resource-rich country wedged between China and Russia. The EU is one of Mongolia’s main trading partners, accounting for over 10 percent of its total trade volume.
