Several herders have reported that a rampaging wild brown bear has attacked their ‘gers’ (yurts) in Darkhan-Uul Province. Fortunately, there were no fatalities, but several gers were destroyed by the wild animal.
According to one source, the bear has been sighted wandered in the Yargait mountain area of Khongor Soum (rural district) since 21 October, clearly searching for food. Environmental officers have been searching for the creature in the area for two days, but, so far have failed to find it. It is believed that the bear has returned to the forest.
Bear hunting is forbidden in Mongolia, as it is considered an endangered animal.
