Mongolian drivers demonstrated earlier today (5 November) against the increase of fuel price by circling the State Palace and Sukhbaatar Square, in the centre of Ulaanbaatar with their vehicles. Organisers say the demonstration will continue for five days between 8 a.m to 11 a.m. One of those behind the demonstration, B.Tsegmed received permission for the action from the mayor of the Sukhbaatar District of Ulaanbaatar.
Fuel importers raised fuel prices by MNT 50-250 per litre in January, February, July, August and October. As of 31 October, the price of diesel had increased to MNT 2220-2385, Ai 76, 80 to MNT 1780-1850, Ai 92, 93 to MNT 1950-1985 and Ai 95 to MNT 2300-2345.
The Mongolian Government has decreased taxes of fuel imports in an attempt to stabilizing prices; however, this did not prove effective.
