This year, the Order of Chinggis Khaan, a prestigious award for Mongolians, will not be presented. According to Z.Enkhbold, Chief of Staff of the President’s Office, this is simply because there are no candidates who meet the criteria. A total of five or six candidates have been proposed for the award, but, none of them meet the criteria. Last year, Olympic Champion, judoka N.Tuvshinbayar was named the 11th recipient of the Order of Chinggis Khaan, thus becoming the first athlete to receive the accolade.

The Order of Chinggis Khaan is to presented individuals who have either contributed to strengthening of the sovereignty and national integrity of Mongolia, or making achievements in promoting and transmitting Mongolian history and cultural values, or  for special service to the nation and the people.

The award is presented on National Pride Day, which marks the birthday of Chinggis Khaan. This is celebrated on the first day of winter in lunar calendar every year; this year it falls 8 November. Mongolia has marked National Pride Day since 2012.
