The Mongolian Cabinet approved a regulation on the criteria for disaster assessment and disaster levels on Wednesday (31October).
According to the regulation, Mongolia will estimate disaster levels by colour codes as yellow for municipal, orange for regional and red for nationwide disasters. The number of victims and deaths and the disaster area as well as the effort that is being made for disaster relief will be considered when the disaster level is defined.
For example, if there are 10-100 victims and 10 deaths in up to two provinces or districts, the disaster is classified as municipal level, with the colour code as yellow. If over 100 people become victims and there are over 10 deaths in three or more provinces or districts, it will be classified as regional level with the color code as orange, while if there are over 100 victims and over 10 deaths in 2 or more regions and the capital city, the disaster is to be classified as nationwide with the colour code will be red.
