Mongolia and Russia will hold joint military exercises in Dornod Province next year, on the anniversary of the victory in the 1939 Battle of Khalkhin Gol.
The joint victory on the river Khalkhin Gol is a very important for Mongolian independence and sovereignty, and it was a very successful military campaign for both countries leading to us winning that war said Foreign Minister D.Tsogtbaatar.
Under the then unknown General Georgy Zhukov, the Soviets won a crushing victory with the assistance of Mongolia at Khalkhin-Gol. Defeat persuaded the Japanese to expand into the Pacific, where they saw the United States as a weaker opponent than the Soviet Union. If the Japanese had not lost at Khalkhin Gol, they may never have attacked Pearl Harbor. This move shaped the future of World War II and beyond.
