The Central Bank of Mongolia sets and announces official foreign currency exchange rates each day. According to the BOM rates published on 18 September, the Mongolian tugrik stood at MNT 2500.82 against the US dollar; the lowest since March.The US dollar is currently being sold by MNT 2505 in commercial banks; however, on the black market the rate is MNT 2508-2510. The main cause of the current US dollar rate increase is not clear. The favourable rate, however, is reflected in the increased number of Mongolians travelling abroad in September.
