Mongolian marathon runner wins 5th place at Asian Games

State honoured athlete B.Ser-Od won 5th place, with a time of 2:23:42, in the men’s marathon at the Asian Games. The multi-sports event is being held from 18 August to 2 September in the Indonesian cities of Jakarta and Palembang.

Previously, B.Ser-Od represented his country in the marathon at the Summer Olympics in 2004, 2008 and 2012 where he also was flag bearer. D.Ser-Od began his international career in 2002 and has competed in the marathon on five consecutive editions of the World Championships in Athletics since 2003. His best performance is 20th at the 2011 World Championships. He is Mongolia’s first ever elite level marathon runner and his personal best of 2:08:50 is the Mongolian national record.

In the women’s marathon, international master B.Munkhzaya took 7th place of women’s marathon (2:40:14), while G.Khishigsaikhan came in at 10th place respectively.
