Malaysian court to decide on legal application of Sh.Altantuya case

The Malaysian High Court will decide on 25 September regarding an application by the father of murdered Mongolian national Sh.Altantuya to use the evidence presented at the Federal Court in the criminal case of her murder, in a RM100m civil suit he filed last month.

In July, S.Shaariibuu filed an application to use evidence in the Federal Court ruling that convicted two policemen for her murder in his lawsuit. The family claims there was a conspiracy involved in Sh.Altantuya’s murder and is seeking RM100 million in damages, including dependency claims.

Ex-commando Sirul Azhar Umar and former police Special Action Force officer Azilah Hadri were convicted by the High Court in 2009 of killing Sh.Altantuya, who was described as an interpreter and a former model.

They succeeded in overturning their conviction at the Court of Appeal in 2013, but the Federal Court in 2015 restored their conviction and sentenced them to death.  Sirul fled to Australia before the conviction was restored. The Federal Court later issued a warrant for his arrest.

Abdul Razak Baginda, who was charged with abetting in the murder, was freed at the end of the prosecution’s case. The court ruled the charge against him was not proven and the government did not appeal, a move that drew public condemnation. (The Sun Daily)
