A total of 150,000 Mongolian students graduated from 96 institutions in academic year of 2017-2018. However, a high number of institutions do not meet education quality or the job market demand. So, it has been decided to merge some private institutions with state-owned universities. Last year, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Sports inspected 18 institutions regarding the education process, the number of students accepted and the qualification of the teachers. As a result, five institutions have been united, whilst the licenses of five have been suspended.
According to official statistics, around 40% of university graduates in Mongolia are unemployed and unable to find work in their fields. Since its transition from a planned to open-market economy, Mongolian higher education has expanded rapidly, with the number of higher education institutions growing from 14 to 96.
