Khuvsgul is the northernmost province of Mongolia. The provincial center Murun, is located about 680 kilometres from Ulaanbaatar and was officially established in 1931.

The province is rightly famous for its natural beauty – vast mountainous areas, taiga, rivers, streams, springs – however, without any doubt, the treasure of the province is Lake Khuvsgul, one of the world’s purest freshwater lakes and the 10th largest in Asia. In the winter, the lake is the scene of the famous ice festival. In the taiga forests beyond the lake, live the Tsaatan – a large community or reindeer herders that preserve a traditional lifestyle in remote areas largely cut off from the modern world.

As a result of its many attractions, the province receives about 20,000 local tourists and 4,000 international tourists per year. Nearly 80 ger hotels and 55 tourist camps are operational in the province which has capacity of receiving 4000 tourists every day.
