Four fifths of all foreign arrivals in Mongolia are from the two neighbours – Russia and China, said S.Bayasgalan, director of the Tourism Policy Coordination Department. Earlier today, tourism ministers from the three countries met at Ulaanbaatar’s Shangri-La Hotel. In 2017, Mongolia received 470,000 tourists; 140,000 of them were from Russia and 160,000 were from China.
The tourist flow to the country is particularly high in July, because of the UNECO registered Mongolian traditional Naadam Festival. However, this year, because of high numbers, only one in five tourists is able to enter the Central Station, which has a capacity of 12000 seats. In order to solve the problem for the future, the organisers are planning to hold a two-day opening ceremony of the Naadam Festival for tourists starting next year.
