A candlelit vigil will be held on Ulaanbaatar’s Independence Square this evening for children who have died in accidents. The event is being organised by the same seven mothers who previously held the much-publicised demonstration ‘Open Your Eyes!’ against child abuse.
Recently, there has been a spate of children accidently being killed or injured: On Monday, a nine year-old boy died from a strong electric shock while he was playing with friends. The child was electrocuted when he touched the iron door outside a pharmacy in the 7st Khoroo of the capital’s Bayanzurkh District. A week earlier, an 11 year-old boy died after the crossbar fell on his head while he was playing football in the school playground. The incident took place on 18 June at Ulaanbaatar’s 79th School, also, in the in Bayanzurkh District.
