The Naadam Festival is the main Mongolian holiday and a wonderful time to experience the culture and people of this amazing land. Another captivating day dawns in Ulaanbaatar as the “Deeltei Mongol” traditional costume festival gathers hundreds of people at the central square. With an aim of promoting the Mongolian traditional costume – the ‘deel’ – and presenting tangible and intangible heritage of art and folklore, the festival is held annually on 10 July on Sukhbaatar Square.
On this day, the following events are expected:
Ceremonial march of the people in Mongolian traditional costume
Folk art performances
Fashion show of Mongolian traditional costumes
Competition for the best pair in traditional costume
Exhibition of traditional clothing, handicraft products and souvenirs
The centuries old Mongol Deel is an important component of Eastern culture like the Japanese kimono, the Indian sari or the Korean hanbok.
