Motor vehicle injuries are a leading cause of death among children in Mongolia. According to the Ulaanbaatar City Family and Youth Development Department, a total of 127 children died unexpectedly in 2017; of this number, 55 of them lost their lives in road accidents. Riding in vehicles without the use of a child safety seat or booster seat has been an increasing cause of child deaths.
The UB Traffic Police Department launched a month-long campaign for installing child car seats in every car from 25 July. Under the campaign, a new regulation was introduced by Traffic Police Department to impose a fine of MNT 96,000 for non-compliance. Children’s seats are being sold in the stores of the Nomin Holding Company for MNT 63,000. The new rules will remain in force after the campaign ends.
