The president of the International Olympic Committee, Jacques Rogge met with Mongolian President Ts. Elbegdorj yesterday. President Elbegdorj expressed to Mr. Rogge Mongolia’s desire to someday host the Olympic Games. Mr. Rogge praised the president’s idea, saying: “I understand Mongolia’s desire to host the Olympic Games. I believe that intensively developing your country will achieve that goal.”

President Elbegdorj specifically stated Mongolia’s desire to host the 2022 Asian Games and the 2040 Summer Olympic Games. Mr. Elbegdorj said, “Mongolians developed wrestling and archery long ago, so we are familiar with sports. Our athletes proved they could succeed at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Now our athletes are preparing for next year’s London Olympics. And the government is planning to organize a national Olympics every four years, with athletes from every soum participating.”
