Nearly 31,000 runners, including 452 people from 30 countries including Australia, the USA, Bahrain, Bolivia, Italy, Malaysia, Canada, France, Ethiop, Kenya, Japan, Russia and Spain have competed in the fifth Ulaanbaatar International Marathon. The marathon started off from Sukhbaatar Square on Saturday.

The marathon included six categories, including a full marathon (42.195 km) and a half marathon (21.975 km).

Mongolian athlete Ts. Byambajav took the men’s crown in 2 hours 23 minutes and 21 seconds, while Mongolian B. Munkhzaya snatched the women’s title in 2:36:39. The winners of the full marathon picked up a cash prize of MNT 10 million or USD 4,158. The total prize of the competition is MNT 125 million or USD 51,975.

Generally, the UB Marathon was a great success, although three Kenyan runners did not complete the course.
