It has been a week since Mongolian nurses began their sit-down protest on Sukhbaatar Square, in the centre of Ulaanbaatar. Meanwhile, dozens of Mongolian doctors shaved their heads on Wednesday in protest of the government’s disregard of their demands. The Mongolian Health Workers’ Union (HWU) had presented their demands to both the government and President Kh.Battulga for increasing the monthly salary of nurses by no less than 50 percent.
However, S.Chinzorig, Minister of Labour and Social Protection has failed to come to a deal with the HWU. President Battulga has also met with representatives from the union at the State Palace. Other sectors such as education, culture and science are uniting in the health workers’ protest.
