The north west of Mongolia has been experiencing unusually high temperatures and low rainfall for this time of year; as a result the ground is tinder dry. Because of this, the National Emergency Management Agency has warned locals and tourists alike of the very real danger of forest fires.
Although NEMA’s regional fire-fighters are on alert, the situation is particularly serious, because Mongolia does not have the financial resources to combat a large-scale forest fire emergency. Not only would human life be at risk, but wild and rare animals would suffer as their natural habitats were destroyed.
The forecast for the eastern part of Mongolia is relatively normal; with occasional rainfall, which is typical for this time of year.
