This year’s “Car-Free Day” in Ulaanbaatar will take place on Saturday, 19 May. Traffic will be restricted between the West Centrals and East Central Intersection on Peace Avenue, Baga Toiruu, Revolution Avenue, Youth Avenue, and Seoul Street, between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. The vehicle free day was initiated in response to concerns about the high number of deaths from car accidents, which an Asian Development Bank study found to be 28 deaths per 10,000 vehicles, a figure reportedly higher than in all other central Asian countries.
The ‘Ulaanbaatar Marathon-2018’ which is now an international event, will be held on this day with the purpose of promoting healthy lifestyle and sports to the public.
