In anticipation of the annual “National Language and Script Day”, observed on 7 May under the auspices of the President of Mongolia, the State History Museum of Mongolia today opened an exhibition showcasing replicas of letters from the Great Khaans of Mongolia to foreign rulers.

The original letters are preserved in different places such as the Vatican Secret Archives and the German National Library.  The replicas are created using same types of calligraphy and design as the original copies.

The exhibition displays copies of letters from the Great Khaans of the Golden Lineage, sent to European rulers. The person who must take credit for the replicas which are also individual art-pieces is calligrapher E.Ariunbold.  These letters sent by the descendants of Great Chinggis Khaan are not only priceless heritages of language and culture, but also are historic diplomatic documents of national importance.

All letters, including a 3.02-meter long letter from Argun Khaan, have been replicated according to their respective original sizes.
