The Ulaanbaatar city administration approved a cycle road project in its 2016-2020 action plan. Cycling reduces car traffic and pollution in city centers and is a healthy exercise. It is also a good way for tourists visiting the Mongolian capital to get to know the city and its many attractions. Because of these benefits, the city administration is launching the UB Bike project in cooperation with Nickel Ganbaa LLC and Petrovis LLC; additional support will be provided by Khas Bank. Under the scheme, the UB bike-share system will be providing discount incentives making the first 30–45 minutes of rental very cheap.

The UB Bike project will be implemented by three stages; in the period up to 2020 there will be 2000 bikes and 150 stations where cycles can be picked up or left after use; from 2021-2026 there will be a further 250 stations and 2500 electric bikes; in the third stage, from 2027-2033, there will be 5000 electric bikes.

The rental cost for the bikes will be MNT 500 for 30 minutes and MNT 800 for an hour.
