The Ulaanbaatar city administration organised a big ’90 minutes clean-up day’ on Saturday 21 April. The big ‘spring-clean’ has made the city ready for the start of the tourist season. During the clean-up day, UB administration has gathered eight tonnes of recyclable rubbish.
According to T.Gantumur, Ulaanbaatar service manager city, over 50 thousand people and 10294 enterprises joined the spring clean.
The 1.5 million residents of Mongolia’s metropolitan capital, Ulaanbaatar, are confronted by various environmental problems. Top on the list is air pollution, which hits the city during the winter months. Soil pollution and the accumulation of rubbish is the second pressing concern.
The big spring clean appears to have been a great success. The event should have taken place earlier in the month, but a late heavy snowfall made it necessary to postpone it.
