Mongolia is marking World Book Day nationwide over several days, from 20-25 April, in a series of events sponsored by the country’s minister of education, culture, science and sports.

During these days, all libraries are operating with special plans and the city libraries are offering membership cards free of charge. Publishing companies are providing 20 to 50 percent discounts on their books. The organisers have invited famous novelists to the event, giving book lovers the chance to personally meet with the authors and get their books signed.

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) designated 23 April as World Book Day in 1995 to pay tribute to books and authors and to encourage people to discover the pleasure of reading.
