A 4.2 magnitude earthquake shook the north of Mongolia near the Russian border on 16 April. The epicenter of the shallow quake was in place named ‘Minj bulag’, 80 km away from Tsagaannuur soum of Khuvsgul province at 6:18 pm. No damage has been reported. The locals who have spoken to the media, said they did not feel tremors because the earthquake occurred in the remote taiga region near Russian border.
This is the third time an earthquake has hit the area of the Khuvsgul aimag this year; in 2017 a total of nine – all above magnitude 3 struck Khuvsgul aimag. The strongest , a 4.1 magnitude quake was recorded on 21 September in Bayanzurkh soum and on 1 April in Tsagaannuur soum last year.
