The Russian State Igor Moiseyev Folk Dance Ensemble is to give a concert  in Ulaanbaatar on 8 June.

The Russian  ensemble first performed in Mongolia in 1942.

Established at the orders of Soviet Foreign Minister V.Molotov in 1937, the State Folk Dance Ensemble is now based at the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall in Moscow. It is the first professional folk dancing ensemble in the world. In its modern form, the Igor Moiseyev Folk Dance Ensemble has been touring around the world since 1983 and is classed as the most widely travelling Russian ballet group of its kind and listed in the Guinness World Records.

Born in Kiev in 1906 to Russian parents and spending his early years in France, Igor Moiseyev was to become the Soviet Union’s most acclaimed choreographer. During his 101 year life, he directed dance performances for Red Square parades in the 1930’s, ballets at the Bolshoi, most notably ‘Spartacus’; he is, however, best remembered for bringing traditional Russian folk dancing to the world through is famous ensemble. Moiseyev died in 2007.
