The General Emergency Committee of the Mongolian capital Ulaanbaatar has decided to delay the planned spring clean for the city by a week because of heavy snowfall. Many provinces of Mongolia were covered by 30-50 cm snow on Friday (13 April).
The Ulaanbaatar city administration had announced a big ’90 minutes clean-up day’ for Saturday 14 April. This has now been postponed to 21 April.
The big ‘spring-clean’ will make the city ready for the start of the tourist season.
The 1.5 million residents of Mongolia’s metropolitan capital, Ulaanbaatar, are confronted by various environmental problems. Top on the list is air pollution, which hits the city during the winter months. Soil pollution and the accumulation of rubbish is the second pressing concern.
