The 1.5 million residents of Mongolia’s metropolitan capital, Ulaanbaatar, are confronted by various environmental problems. Top on the list is air pollution, which hits the city during the winter months. Soil pollution and the accumulation of rubbish is the second pressing concern. The Ulaanbaatar city administration has initiated a big ’90 minutes clean-up day’ on Saturday 14 April. The big ‘spring-clean’ will make the city ready for the start of the tourist season.
Currently, students and teachers from a total of 12 universities and institutes have confirmed that they will join the clean-up day. It is expected that the army of students will be joined by civil servants from the many departments of the UB administration. Everyone is welcome to join in!
