Cuba is famous for the high standards of its health service and has become an important destination on the global health-tourism map. Significant numbers of people suffering from serious diseases have been restored to health after visiting the island. For most Mongolians, travelling to Havana is financially impossible – so, some Cuban doctors have come to UB to assist their colleagues here.
Three Cuban medical specialists began working this week at the Intermed hospital in this capital, as part of agreements between Cuba and Mongolia on health cooperation.
According to the Cuban embassy in Mongolia, the hospital and Cuban Medical Services signed an agreement last year in Havana so specialists can work and contribute their knowledge to the development of health services in Mongolia.
This agreement is based on the advances in medicine and health indicators achieved by the Caribbean nation.
Despite the cultural and language differences between the two countries, the three Cuban doctors specialized in cardiology, oncology and rheumatology are already part of the group of Mongolian doctors of this hospital.
The World Health Organization (WHO) recognizes the development of medicine in Cuba and the access of the entire population to this service.
Cristian Morales Fuhrimann, representative in Cuba of WHO and the Pan American Health Organization, recently stated in Havana that, unlike millions of people on the planet who do not have access to health services, Cuba offers these services to all inhabitants, free of charge.
