United States Vice President Joe Biden might encounter some protesters when he visits Mongolia on Monday, August 22. Mr. Biden was invited to Mongolia by Prime Minister S.Batbold to show that Mongolia regards the U.S. as a “third neighbor.”Officials say during Mr. Biden’s visit the two sides will discuss political and economic issues. But the Green Coalition and some activists suspect the real purpose of the visit is to discuss the possibility of burying nuclear waste in Mongolia. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs denies this. A Foreign Affairs official said, “There is no nuclear waste deal between the two nations. An official statement will be issued soon.” Mr. Biden’s visit comes 67 years after a former U.S. vice president, Henry Wallace, visited Mongolia.
