Government ministers met today to discuss several issues, including education and taxes. The Minister of Education, Culture and Science raised an issue about students’ tuition fees. Just before Nadaam, MPs approved a law that grants qualifying students in Mongolian universities MNT 70,000 per month. The payments will begin September 1, 2012, but first the Government must approve rules for implementing the program. The Government must also decided whether to continue offering fee allowances to certain students, such as orphans, the children of civil servants, and children whose parents are herders or are extremely poor. The ministers also discussed a proposal to impose a tax on oil products, and how much money Mongolia will pay for oil imported from Russia in September.
