Soil pollution is a silent threat in Ulaanbaatar, just as air pollution has become a rising problem in recent years. The Minister of Health has issued a decree to ban the use of non-standard outside toilets in Ulaanbaatar city ger districts starting from 1 June, 2018. Over 225,000 families living in the ger districts of Ulaanbaatar, use outside toilets.
Within this decision, toilets will be standardized in all districts of the Mongolian capital, thereby preventing soil pollution. Related to this, an audit of all outside toilets in specially protected areas across country has begun.
