An international conference of the Silk Road Support Group of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly has kicked off in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan. The conference on the theme “The role of parliamentarians in boosting economic co-operation and cultural ties along the Silk Road”, is co-organized by the Milli Majlis – or the National Assembly of Azerbaijan and the OSCE PA Silk Road Support Group. The event was held from 13-14 March. The Mongolian representation led by Foreign Minister D.Tsogtbaatar and MP J.Enkhbayar participated in the conference with over 80 delegates from 22 member states.
Foreign Minister D.Tsogtbaatar said that the Silk Road played an important role in history of the Mongolian Empire. He noted that the Mongolian Government is currently supporting China’s ‘One Belt and One Road’ initiative. This is important for international economy, trade, culture and humanity as well as self-development.
The OSCE PA Silk Road Support Group was established at the initiative of Azerbaijan. Mongolia joined in Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe in 2012.
