D.Sumiyabazar, Minister of Mining and Heavy Industry and Masato Takaoka, Japan’s Ambassador to Mongolia visited the Narangiin Enger landfill on Monday. This large municipal solid waste (MSW) site is located northwest of Ulaanbaatar and was constructed using funding from the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in 2009.
The project was implemented to improve MSW management including collection, transportation, and disposal. JICA helped provide the fleet of rubbish trucks which collect the capital’s waste. As the population of Ulaanbaatar continues to grow, the need for better waste management is becoming ever more relevant..
Every day, between 2500-3000 tons of household waste are received at the centralised MSW sites of Narangiin Enger, Moringiin Davaa and Tsagaan Davaa; currently only landfill technology is applied for disposing of the rubbish.
