A 13 year-old girl died on the night of 22 August 2017 at the ‘Ochir Centre’ hotel which is located in the Bayanzurkh district of the Mongolian capital. The case is particularly harrowing as girl was raped and murdered.

On Tuesday 6 March, a hearing was held at the Bayanzurkh District Court. Previously, the case was sent back to prosecutor due to uncertainties about the guilt of  two suspects named ‘A’ and ‘J. Subsequently, the relatives of the victim appealed to the court on 24 January 2018.

The court decided to prosecute the owner of the Ochir Centre and called for a reinvestigation.

Whilst the hearing was in process, members of the public gathered outside the courthouse protesting the murder and rape of the girl and demanding that the motel which had allowed a child to check in with adult men should be closed down immediately.
