Mongolia’s foreign trade turnover reached USD 785 million was in January 2018; an increase of 11 percent on the same period last year. The country’s exports dropped by one percent, or USD 5 million, while imports increased by 30 percent or USD 84 million.
The bulk of Mongolia’s trade turnover is with China; this represents 61 percent of the total, whilst trade with the Russian Federation is 16 percent. Trade with China is important, but growth is sluggish, a mere 0.3 percent growth; a more dynamic 52 percent increase in trade is to be observed in Mongolian-Russian turnover.
Imports of machinery, equipment and constructional materials were 34 percent and oil products made up 21 percent.
