The National Emergency Management Agency of Mongolia (NEMA) has saved 173 people and protected properties worth 13.4 billion in the first two months of 2018. Over the last two years, NEMA has updated its facilities and equipment with an investment of more than MNT 40 billion to improve its capacity. In addition, the organisation has been involved in numerous international training programmes.
NEMA runs Mongolia’s fire service. Because of the use of open stoves fires remain a big problem in the country. Access can also be a challenge, especially in the ger-district shanty towns around the capital. So far, this year, there have been 723 fires in which 14 people have perished, 12 others have been injured; 319 houses have burned down and properties have been damaged to the value of MNT 7.9 billion.
