The Mongolian Cabinet has instructed the Ulaanbaatar city mayor to  prepare for the relocation of the city council offices, the office of the governor and other departments from the centre of the capital to the Khan-Uul district. The future UB city offices will be located in the New Yarmag Centre.

The decision was made with the purpose of reducing traffic jams and air pollution. The ‘big move’ represents the first step in the implementation of the Master Plan for redeveloping the Mongolian capital. A key aspect of the plan is ‘de-centralisation’; the ultimate aims are to create a favorable business environment, boost tourism, improve public service accessibility and address the ecological problems which beset the city during the winter months.   

Currently, there are 1933 civil servants working in Ulaanbaatar’s various municipal organisations, which provide 332 kinds of services to 5700 citizens every day.
